Seasonal Home Calendar
A month-by-month plan for rotating, refreshing and storing the things in your home.
Seasonal Home Calendar
Twelve months of small jobs: when to swap the closet, air the duvets, check for moths, refresh cedar and lavender, and donate a bag.
- Three or four small jobs a month, January to December
- Reminders for moths, damp, cedar and lavender
- A page for your own swap dates and notes
A home runs on a few dozen small jobs a year. Done at the right time they take minutes; left for later they turn into a musty duvet, a moth problem or a December panic. This calendar puts each one in the month it belongs to.
Nothing on it is big. Sand the cedar blocks in May. Sniff-test stored clothes in July. Donate one bag before the year ends. The point is that you do not have to remember any of it.
What is inside
- January to June: three or four jobs a month, from checking stored wool to flipping the mattress
- July to December: the autumn closet swap, draught checks, guest linens and a pre-holiday declutter
- Swap dates and notes: a table for your own spring and autumn dates
Who it is for
Anyone who likes a plan on the fridge, rotates clothes or bedding by season, or has found a moth-eaten coat in October and thought "I meant to check that".
How to use it
- Print pages two and three and pin them where you will see them. Tick things off.
- Fill in your own spring and autumn swap dates on page four and work back from them.
- Pair it with the Plastic-Free Closet Storage Kit for the two closet swaps.
FAQ
Questions about this printable
Is it for a particular climate?
It assumes four seasons with a cold winter, which fits most of the US, UK and northern Europe. If your seasons run differently, shift the closet swaps by a month or two and use the notes page for your own dates.
Can I use it year after year?
Yes. The months do not change, and nothing on it is dated. Print a fresh copy each January and use the notes page to carry over what you learned.
How long does each month take?
Most months are under an hour in total if you do the jobs as they come up. The closet swaps in spring and autumn are the exception; allow an afternoon for each.
